Considering the band hasn't released a proper album since 2007's La Cucaracha, you can look forward to a mixed-bag setlist pulling from their classic albums, and maybe a few covers, too.

If there were a Mt. Rushmore for gangsta rap icons, one could definitely make a case for the inclusion of Scarface. His iconic voice and knack for consistently delivering soulful vitriol through a hardcore Houston, Texas, lens have made Scarface a virtual deity in the South, and his influence on hip-hop is celebrated just about everywhere else. Any lyricists who dabble in audacity, insanity, or reality owe him at least a nod of recognitionâand only a precious few will be able to match his intelligent, street-level storytelling. Timeless classics like "Mind Playing Tricks on Me" from his Geto Boys days and solo anthems like "My Block" prove that his ghetto psychosis never strays from Southern-fried funk, making Scarface's hall-of-fame rĂ©sumĂ© all the more sonically potent. He has won numerous awards, including two Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire (and was nominated for the song 'O⊠Saya,' which features rapper/singer M.I.A.). He has recorded with the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, a singer I discovered after the soundtrack for Lagaan sent me into the Bollywood rabbit hole (I watched Satyam Shivam Sundaram; I saw the most gorgeous woman to ever appear on film, Zeenat Aman; I heard the heavenly voice of Mangeshkar). Some have called Rahman 'the Mozart of Madras.' I consider him to be the Mozart of Now."

The classic, the original. They donât even bother putting âJulyâ in the event name, because everybody knows whatâs up. This is Seafairâs annual big-ass fireworks show at Gas Works Park, with the pyrotechnics exploding up above Lake Union and âchoreographedâ (thatâs so cute) to a very loud pre-recorded musical score. Thereâll also be two beer gardens, scads of food vendors, live bands, and a glow-in-the-dark dance party that ends when the fireworks begin. As long as it doesnât rainânot our fault if it does!!âthis event will almost certainly be a mob scene, so you may wanna get a fresh COVID booster beforehand and definitely wear your mask, even though itâs outside. This year, CHBP has a lineup that I can only describe as chaotic, glitzy, fun. Joining British hyperpop star Charli XCX are major acts like Diplo, Jai Wolf, millennial-favorite Toro y Moi, Zoomer favorite 100 gecs, and a bunch of others like Remi Wolf and rap wunderkind Flo Milli. Local acts like Enumclaw, The Black Tones, Archie, and The Grizzled Mighty are also part of the stellar 69+-performer lineup. It's been over two years since the last CHBP took place in 2019, but in December the festival announced a July 22-24 return for the 24th edition of the block party. CHBP's talent buyer and program director Evan Johnson said that this summer is the "perfect time" for the party to make its comeback. As one of the tentpoles of Seattle summers before the pandemic, organizers are hopeful that crowds will turn out to support the tried and true formula of the block party. And as such, CHBP's footprint in the neighborhood will look much the same as it did in years past: two main outdoor stages, several indoor stages and activations, and a giant beer garden right outside the Neumos complex.

Originally started as a grassroots event on San Juan Island, Summer Meltdown is now a full-fledged music festival a bit closer to Seattle. This year, the event goes down in Sky Meadows Park in Snohomish, a riverfront property that the organizers note is full of "forested camping, beaches, swimming holes, and stunning views." Artists like Greensky Bluegrass, Lettuce, and Travis Thompson will headline the weekend lineup, rounded out by yoga and meditation workshops, plus a Saturday night forest creature costume party.
