No April Fools here, just some delicious new restaurants to check out—although The Sports Bra, a new women-focused sports bar opening in Sullivan's Gulch today, did initially start out as a joke between friends. In other news, Portland is getting a new Japanese bakery and lesbian bar, and the vegan spot Miami Nice is closing. Read on for more updates. After going on hiatus for the winter, this boba cafe on Southeast Division announced on Instagram this week that it will reopen its doors on Saturday.

The Sports Bra Add to a List
Chef-owner Jenny Nguyen opens this women-focused sports bar and restaurant with a name inspired by a long-standing joke between her and her friends today. The establishment will show women's sports, including Portland Thorns games and ATA Football matches, on the TVs and will highlight offerings from women-owned businesses on its menu, such as booze from Freeland Spirits Add to a List , beef from Carman Ranch, and produce from Vibrant Valley Farm. Nguyen's menu of classic pub grub features family recipes like "Mom's baby back ribs" and "Aunt Tina's Vietna-wings."

Yui Add to a List
Good news for fans of Chalunthorn “Yui” Schaeffer's Thai restaurant Yui, which opened Add to a List in August 2020 and closed Add to a List last July: It reopens today, with Schaeffer’s mother (known affectionately as "Mama Ta") as the new head chef. Better yet, many of the restaurant's most popular dishes, including sakoo (peanut radish dumplings) and a creative take on pad kee mao using squid ink pasta, are making a comeback.

FUTURE OPENINGS

Doc Marie's Add to a List
Named for the early medical doctor Marie Equi, a pioneering labor and women's rights activist and lesbian who raised a child with her same-sex partner long before it was commonplace, this "lesbian bar for everyone" plans to open in the former Elvis Room Add to a List space on 203 SE Grand Avenue in May. It will be Portland's only dedicated lesbian bar.

Rue Cler Add to a List
A little taste of France is coming to Portland: Former Sol Bowl owner Cindy Hymer plans to open this bar, bakery, restaurant, and grocery store, named for a famous market street in Paris, at 6716 SE Milwaukie Avenue in mid-to-late spring.

Tanaka Add to a List
The team behind Afuri plans to open this Japanese bakery specializing in milk bread and katsu sandwiches in the former Blue Star Donuts Add to a List space in downtown Portland in May.

Dig a Pony Add to a List
The beloved dance club/burger bar Dig A Pony will close its doors this June and will be taken over by : Elizabeth Elder and Bryan Wollen of Lose Yr Mind Fest and Devon and Tyler Treadwell of North Portland’s Tulip Shop Tavern. The Mercury's Jenni Moore has more details.

Miami Nice Add to a List
This vegan spot specializing in "Miami and Cuban flavors so good, you'll swear it's bad" announced via Instagram this week that it is closing for good until it can find a new location. Owner Valerie "Val" Espinoza wrote, "It’s with a very heavy heart I have to say goodbye to you all for now. I will be searching high and low for a permanent home but until then please know it’s been an absolute honor to bring you a piece of my hometown! Thank you to all of you for making this little dream of mine a reality."

This downtown wine bar and restaurant announced via its newsletter on Thursday that it will close permanently at the end of April.
