Summer Reading Program and Festival
Cedar Mill and Bethany Community Libraries' Summer Reading Program has grown over its 46-year history. Upwards of 5,000 Cedar Mill and Bethany community members participated in 2021 and the libraries are expecting even more this year. The program gives readers the opportunity to read for fun, log their reading hours, participate in activities and accomplish goals. Reading includes listening to audiobooks and being read to. The 2022 theme is Read Beyond the Beaten Path which focuses on camping and nature.
To encourage widespread participation, the libraries offer rewards and incentives. Children ages 0-18 will earn a free prize book for reading this summer. Teens, tweens and adults have chances to win other prizes.
The program, event and prizes are being sponsored by local businesses including some of Cedar Mill Libraries' new neighbors in the recently-built Milltowner shopping center.
The community's exuberance surrounding the program inspired CMBCL to celebrate by putting on a Summer Reading Festival which will take place at Cedar Mill Library on June 24, 2022 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The after-hours festival will feature games, crafts, activities, and raffles for all ages.
