It's 1981, and a strange new disease is causing respiratory attacks and unusual skin cancers in otherwise healthy young people. Soon linked to gay men, HIV/AIDS fueled a fire of fierce discrimination. In Oregon, activists formed organizations like Cascade AIDS Project and Our House of Portland to offer support. Nonetheless, HIV/AIDS killed over 700,000 Americans between 1981 and 2021. 4,613 of them lived in Oregon.
